DIY - LAVENDER & WILLOW HEART
In 2009 i married my husband. Our wedding day was perfect. I remember everything.
I walked down the aisle to Yiruma - River Flows in You, said our vows in the most beautiful little church, the sun was shining all day, we had a beautiful three tired cake (which i never even got to try, it all got eaten before i made it to the cake table at the reception) and then danced until the early hours of the morning. I married my best friend and it was perfect.
This month we celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary (yay!) I'm super excited.
As i've been reminiscing over our wedding memorabilia recently i wanted to share these cute little DIY willow hearts with you. This particular one in the photographs below is actually from our wedding day, we still have several of them throughout the house, our girls each have one hung in their bedrooms as do we. Not only are they really easy to make (yay!) but they also make a real statement, they are great to keep/give away to guests too. My mom, sister and bridesmaids have some to remember the day.
A bunch of the thin bendable willow (which i purchased from a wholesale haberdashery centre) only cost me a few pounds and from what i recall (five years remember!) i made around 20 of these hearts in various sizes... it was a great DIY for rubbish movies night :)
On the image above you can see one of our DIY - Reclaimed Wood Wall Art. The link is below to the tutorial. I LOVE these pieces. They look great in the alcoves in our lounge. Easy to make too :)
As i LOVE fresh Lavender (however dislike Lavender house scents/candles etc - weird i know) and the beautiful Lavender plant i have in our lounge is blooming well i decided to spruce up our wedding hearts and transfer this one to the lounge in honour of our upcoming wedding anniversary
Bendable Willow (mine was from a wholesale haberdashery centre)
Thin wire
Pliers
Twine
Lavender
> Select a small bunch of twine and bend it in half to form 'half' of a heart shape
> Twist a thin amount of wire around the branches to hold them together
> Repeat again to form the other half of the heart
> Bind the two pieces of the 'heart' together at the bottom and secure with more wire
> Bend the 'heart' to perfect the shape
> Tie twine around the base of the heart to cover the wire
> Loop a piece of twine through the heart to form a hanging loop and tie in a bow
> If you love Lavender like i do it finishes these little hearts off beautifully, they smell fab too. Just cut strand of Lavender and loop the stems through the willow branches.
> Hang and enjoy
